Medals for a family of runners who took part in the fun run.

RUNNERS gathered at Rafflesia International and Private School, Kajang, campus for the inaugural Charity Fun Run.

After a thrilling performance by the school’s 24-Season drummers and a zumba warm-up, the race was flagged off by Universiti Putra Malaysia Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products Assoc Prof Dr Eric H’ng and Shepherds Centre Foundation, Semenyih director Pastor Jacop David.

The runners embarked on the five km journey around the green and leafy township of Kajang 2 and Tropicana Heights.

The race was closely contested until Ahmad Sayuti broke away from the field and managed to maintain his lead to win the race in 21m 02s.

Muhamad Akashah was in second place with 21m 13s. Ahmad “warmed down” by running around the course again!

In the female category, Sayazwani Razak was first with 27m 47s.

The biggest cheer was for Nahla Mikhail Savory, a Rafflesia primary student, who came in second.

School principal Andrew Crompton thanked the runners for taking part.

He added that all registration fees from the event will be donated to Shepherds Centre Foundation.

The centre provides protection, shelter and skills training for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He also thanked the sponsors of the event who donated the special lucky draw prize of a two-day, three-night stay at a resort in the Maldives.

He said this was the school’s first time planning a fun run.
