THE Peninsula International School Australia (Pisa) in Setia Alam is the only school in Malaysia to offer the Australian state of Victoria’s curriculum, which provides primary, secondary and pre-tertiary education.
Students armed with this high-quality education can gain entry to top universities in the UK, Australia and the United States.
The curriculum is delivered through a partnership with the prestigious Peninsula Grammar of Melbourne and brings over 55 years of high-quality education based on the original Victorian Curriculum.
HCK Group executive director of education division Felix Lee said that currently, the Victorian Curriculum is also being offered in international schools in countries ranging from China to South Africa.
The group’s education division is experienced in running international and private national schools.
The curriculum leads to the Victorian Certificate of Education, a university entrance exam recognised by leading tertiary institutions in Australia, the UK and the United States.
“Pisa offers a comprehensive range of subjects within a strong academic curriculum, ” Lee explained.
“All students study both core and elective subjects. In addition, they will undertake a variety of activities aimed at performing arts, science and sports with a particular emphasis on health, nutrition and fitness.”
Lee added that the flexibility of the Victorian Curriculum helps to equip students for a successful future as it is based on providing the students with choices.
“All subjects are electives except English, which means that students can choose the subject of their preference and focus on their strengths, ” he said.
“Instead of the exam-oriented curriculum, our school inculcates skills and critical thinking through skills- and project-based learning. This helps the students to develop presentation skills, articulate ideas well and work in groups, all of which are necessary for them to excel in the future.”
There will also be opportunities for students to gain leadership skills through the year group, contributions in assemblies and house activities, among others.
There is an ongoing emphasis on academic attainment throughout the year with a particular focus on challenging students through tasks that require complex thought processes.
“The range of core and elective subjects will ensure exposure to different learning areas, while offering a broad range of subject areas guided by the Peninsula Grammar School of Melbourne, ” Lee said.
Sharing the same sentiments, Pisa’s principal Jason Bek said: “Pisa is an innovative and forward-thinking school with a special ethos.
“We constantly strive to be the leading light in education known for excellent academic achievements, which I believe can be best achieved with the globally recognised Australian curriculum.
“Our partner in the delivery, Peninsula Grammar, has a long and distinguished record of educating Malaysian students, as well as expertise in international curriculum delivery and administration.”
Bek said Pisa’s mission is to provide the highest quality teachers who can inspire and nurture students to reach for personal excellence through a broad range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities.
“At Pisa, we want our students to be the very best they can be. Our dynamic Victorian Curriculum recognises that every student is on a lifelong-learning journey.
“We are driven by our mission to not only produce students who are all-round high achievers, but
to also promote personal growth and social responsibility in a multicultural educational environment.”
