UTAR president is FEIAP Engineer of the Year

UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) president Prof Datuk Dr Chuah Hean Teik is the proud recipient of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) Engineer of the Year 2019 award.

Introduced in 2008 to recognise engineers of the highest standard of ethics and conduct, and those who have made substantial contributions to benefit society, the award was presented at a ceremony in Xi’an, China, on June 29.

Prof Chuah is a well-recognised educator, researcher and technical leader. Having been in academia since 1986, he has been a professor for the last 22 years.

He was the founding dean of engineering at Multimedia University in Malaysia and has been heading UTAR since 2008. His research interests are in applied electromagnetics and microwave remote sensing. He has published more than 260 international journal and conference papers.

He is the current president of the Asean Academy of Engineering and Technology, and the past president of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).

He helped draw up the FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines, which provide a framework for the development of an engineering programme accreditation system in the region.

He was also instrumental in establishing a platform for mutual recognition of engineering degree programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.
