HELP University and Bloomberg have opened the largest Bloomberg Finance Lab in Malaysia at the university’s 33rd anniversary celebrations and launch of its new RM25mil Business Analytics Technology and Innovation Centre (Batic).

The Bloomberg Finance Lab will be housed in Batic, which has a central role in HELP University’s transformation to become an analytics driven and entrepreneurial university.

Batic, which will be open to the public, acts as a technology research, incubation and ideation hub, comprising a training centre for stock market researchers and investment analysts and a training centre for professionals in big data and business analytics.

HELP University vice-chancellor and president Prof Datuk Dr Paul Chan said: “HELP University is recognised for its top quality graduates in the economics, business and financial disciplines.”

“Besides our Business Analytics certificate course, our students can also get certified in Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) using the Bloomberg terminals.

“Such training and access to rich data, case studies, information resources and financial tools, will accelerate our students to become global leaders in the financial and business world,” he said.

Prof Chan assisted in constructing the KLSE Composite Index and was chairman of the committee from 1991 to 2001.

Bloomberg head of Asean Sales Maggie Ng said: “We are excited to be advancing HELP University’s ambition to be an analytics and data-driven university and offer the same market-moving news and data used by the world’s leading business and financial professionals to its students and faculty.”

“With the training and coursework offered by the Bloomberg Finance Lab, we hope to advance the careers of students in Malaysia to build the next generation of financial professionals,” she said.

HELP University joins more than 800 universities worldwide with Bloomberg terminals or finance labs.

There will be 16 Bloomberg terminals for the university’s business and economics undergraduates in Batic.

The Bloomberg terminal is a software platform that provides real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics to help leading business and financial professionals worldwide make better informed investment decisions. The service also features execution platforms for every asset class, research and a global network to communicate securely and reliably.

The Bloomberg finance lab will help undergraduate and graduate students build the skills needed for a career in finance.

Students will also have access to Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC), an e-learning certification course, and CFAPRO, a database that maps the CFA Institute Candidate Body of Knowledge to over 387 relevant Bloomberg terminal functions.
