FORMER Mimos Berhad president and chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Dr Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen Tengku Ibrahim (pic) has been appointed Universiti Malaya’s (UM) board of directors chairman for a term of three years, effective this month until October 2021.
Born in Kota Baru, Kelantan on Dec 15, 1946, he studied at Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak before obtaining his undergraduate, Master’s and PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom.
Tengku Dr Mohd Azzman is one of the individuals who was involved in the setting up of the Multimedia Super Corridor.
He previously served as a lecturer at UM’s Faculty of Engineering and was also its dean from 1975 to 1984.
UM vice-chancellor Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim said staff welcomed his appointment.
“Tengku Dr Mohd Azzman will be able to bring UM to greater heights,” he said in a statement.
