Overwhelming response to UM’s economics quiz

KUALA LUMPUR: University of Malaya’s Faculty of Economics and Administration (FEA) received an overwhelming participation from 45 educational institutions nationwide for its 2018 Deans’ Trophy Economics Quiz.

The national level quiz competition on April 7, which saw the participation of 276 students, aimed to cultivate greater interest in the field of economics among the students in Malaysia.

According to FEA dean Rohana Jani, the quiz exposed the students to important skills necessary to resolve issues related to current economic development.

“The 2018 Deans’ Trophy Economics Quiz is a national level competition which aims to establish a good cooperation between FEA, schools, matriculation centres, private colleges and the Ministry of Education.

“Apart from that, the quiz’s key objective is to create awareness on the importance of the economics knowledge particularly among the students”, she said in a press release.

The Kedah Matriculation College emerged as the champion in the quiz competition and won the cash prize of RM3,000.

Rohani added that the competition also served as a platform to attract potential undergraduate students to enrol in FEA in the future. University of Malaya is currently ranked 114th on QS World University Rankings, 24th on QS Asian University Rankings and 46th in Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings.
