Need for radical innovations

Cause for concern: Prof Williams says that we need to find ways to useour resources differently.

THE advancement of technology has led to daily conveniences such as washing machines and refrigerators, among other things. Unfortunately, these machines consume vast amounts of energy and resources, and sometimes even encourage waste.

For instance, a regular top-loading washing machine uses 40 gallons (150 litres) of water for an average-size load. And that’s not even counting the energy needed to run it, and the amount of waste, or dirty water, it produces after each cycle.
