Kiwi study awards
OUTSTANDING young scholars and future leaders in Malaysia are invited to apply for the Asean Undergraduate Tuition Fees Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
The purpose of the scholarship is to promote educational opportunities for young Asean students who have an excellent academic record and leadership potential.
The scholarship covers the tuition fees for the first year of study for an undergraduate degree commencing in 2016 at Victoria University of Wellington. Five scholarships are available this year.
The scholarships will be awarded on merit to outstanding candidates. Candidates must be citizens of an Asean country, and in the first year of undergraduate study at Victoria. Applications close on Oct 31.

Kerala Festival and Symposium
THE Global Malayalee 2015 (TGM 15) to be hosted by the All Malaysia Malayalee Association (AMMA), will be held from Nov 27 to 29.
Malayalees from around the world will come together to interact, share and appreciate the richness of their south Indian culture, language and traditions.
Apart from celebrating the achievements of Malayalees, the event also aims to raise proceeds that will go towards the education of underprivileged children. It will also look into the socio-economic needs of the community.
The event will commence with a Symposium of Global Achievers who include include Dr Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Indian MP, writer, author and former diplomat. philanthropist and businessman M.A. Yusuff Ali of Lulu International Group, and humanitarian extraordinaire Uma Preman.
Local VIPs include former judge Tan Sri V C George and corporate figure Tan Sri Ravindran Menon.
There will be a star-studded night of glamour that will be graced by big names in the Malayalam entertainment industry on the second day. The third day will see a Kerala Festival and open house featuring a traditional Kerala lunch called Sadhya, It is open to all Malaysians and tourists intrigued by the Kerala experience for a nominal fee of RM20.
Topics ranging from business to culture, arts and music will be discussed during the event.

Just for youth
THE search is on for 20 of the world’s brightest conservationists between the ages of 18 to 25, to join the first ever Youth Forum for People and Wildlife.
Convened by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) the Youth Forum will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa in September next year.

Expo on oil and gas industry
UNIVERSITI Teknologi Petronas is organising its annual Oil & Gas Competition and Exhibition (OGCE) from Nov 3 to 6.
The theme is on Enhancing Future Energy and includes various types of competitions, such as PetroQuiz, Scomi Mud Innovation Challenge and Paper Contest. A career exhibition to expose young future engineers to the oil and gas industry will also be held.
All undergraduates from local and private universities can register for the OGCE open day to be held on Nov 5.
The activities for the open day include technical talks, career interview sessions, resume submissions and company engagement sessions. With the support of the Education Ministry, the OGCE is also organising a National Oil Rig Competition for secondary school students nationwide with the aim of providing an additional insight into the industry.

Meet on science and maths
THE Sixth International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education 2015 (CoSMEd 2015) will be held from Nov 16 to 19 at Seameo Recsam in Penang.
The theme is “Revitalising Science and Mathematics Teaching and Learning Culture towards Sustainable Living”.
Educators and researchers are expected to discuss and address issues on improving science and mathematics instructions for the 21st century.
Conference strands include Teaching and Learning Practices, Pedagogical Innovation, Teachers’ Professional Development, Assessment and Evaluation, STEM Education across Context and Equity and Equality in Education.
THE Faculty of Music, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will be organising a concert and charity dinner on Oct 29.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will be the guest of honour. The event will be held at 8pm at the Dewan Agong Tuanku Canselor at UiTM’s Shah Alam campus.
Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase equipment and musical instruments for the new UiTM Concert Hall.
It will also be used to support student exchange programmes and place the university’s music students at renowned music conservatories and universities abroad.
Pop artistes Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Dayang Nurfaizah, as well as UiTM alumni Syafinaz Selamat, NurHasmidar Ahmad and Anu Syuhada will perform at the event. They will be accompanied by the UiTM Symphony Orchestra.
