MORE than 1,000 contestants from 28 local and overseas universities will take part in the Ninth Varsity Boat Race 2015.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia deputy vice chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Mohd Ismail Abd Aziz (pic) said the meet which is jointly organised by UTM and the Education Ministry is anticipating 15 local teams to confirm participation.
Another 13 overseas teams will be joining the Varsity Boat Race for seven days starting from Aug 10 at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex. They are from the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Australia and Myanmar.
"There is some variation for this year's competition. There will be a Dragon Boat special event and a school ranking rowing competition.
"This is to give early exposure to the students. There will also be a Kayak Exhibition,” he said.
Apart from the exhibition, there will be a rowing clinic series, rowing training camp and water awareness programme that will be held under the Youth Rowing Sports Development Programme. – Bernama
