Varsity announces new appointments


Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali has been appointed as Unitens new pro-chancellor for a period of two years until 2017.

YANG di-Pertua Negri of Penang Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas’s appointment as Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s (Uniten) chancellor has been extended for another two years until January 2017.

He is Uniten’s first chancellor and was first appointed in January 2005.

Uniten’s board of directors’ meeting also decided to appoint Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali (pic) as the university’s new pro-chancellor for a period of two years from February 2015 to February 2017.

He takes over from Tan Sri Abu Zarim Omar whose term has ended.

Dr Ahmad Tajuddin who is UEM Group chairman, was appointed as he was the one behind the idea of the name for the university and support for student activities.

He received an honorary doctorate in engineering from Uniten in 2008, and has also previously served as Tenaga Nasional Nerhad chairman/chief executive.

He has been a member of the International Advisory Council for Uniten since 2010.

His appointment will be held during the university’s convocation ceremony on August 15 and 16.

The university also thanked Abu Zarim for his services as pro-chancellor from 2005 to 2015, and congratulated Abdul Rahman and Dr Ahmad Tajuddin on their appointments.
