Talk on infections

UNDERSTANDING the benefits and risks of treatments for diseases is crucial for patients and their families. Some medical treatments affect the nervous system, which could reverse the condition or turn deadly.

Dr Igor J. Koralnik who is a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School is an expert in the treatment of infections of the nervous system with research focusing on the polyomavirus JC (JC Virus) which triggers the deadly brain disease, multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).

As part of the Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Speakers Series lecture, he will be sharing his findings and experience.

The talk When Good Medications Turn Deadly: How Certain Treatments Allow an Innocuous Virus to Trigger a Devastating Brain Disease will be held on Dec 9 from 5.30pm to 7pm at Hall 3, Graduate Centre, Sunway University.

Body image workshops

A SERIES of interactive workshops have been organised by The Actors Studio Academy to help young people understand and cope with the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty.

They encourage participants to think critically and explore solutions through discussions, making puberty more comfortable and more manageable.

The two-day workshops for 13- to 15-year-olds will be conducted by June Low, a sexual health educator.

They will run on Dec 8 and 9 (girls) and Dec 10 and 11 (boys), from 10 am to 1 pm. The fee is RM200 plus RM50 for registration purposes.
