AGAINST the backdrop of the national day of mourning for the victims of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17, schools are trimming their Merdeka celebrations to moderate scales.

Kaladevi Arumugam, who heads the moral education panel of SMK Jalan Bukit in Kajang, said the school had planned a month-long schedule for the Merdeka celebrations.
