AFTER its successful transformation into a vibrant industrial area in the suburbs of Kuching, Demak Laut is gearing up to become another education hub in Sarawak.
The establishment of the Sarawak Matriculation College, a community college and several branches of private higher education institutions in the area was in line with the plan, said Demak Laut state assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
He said the presence of higher education institutions would benefit the children of some 40,000 residents in the area, as well as those from other parts of the state, he said after handing over 1Malaysia book vouchers to 200 students at a ceremony recently.
“For the people who reside here, this plan will mean that they need not send their children too far to pursue higher education,” he said, adding that the institutions could also provide a steady flow of skilled workers to industries in the area. — Bernama
