A showcase of world culture

MALAYSIAN students at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada organised a cultural night promoting Malaysian culture earlier this month.

The inaugural show which was held at the university’s Kailash Mital Theatre, showcased various various performances including Joget Pahang, Dikir Barat and silat performed by 53 Malaysian students studying at the university.

Local communities featuring Indian, Chinese, Philippines and Sri Lankan performers also took part in the cultural night.

Carleton University Malaysian Students Association president Muhammad Sidqi said more than 100 tickets were sold.

“We are donating 20% of ticket sales to Pengasih Malaysia, the Malaysian non-governmental organisation dedicated to addressing social issues and drug addiction,” he said.

The event was attended by the Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada Umardin Mutalib.
