Centre for crop research

A CENTRE for plantation crop research and development will be built in Semenyih, Selangor with the collaboration of the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus and Applied Agricultural Resources Sdn Bhd (AAR).

According to the AAR Agricultural Research Head Dr Soh Aik Chin, the centre would be near the campus to give students access to the resources and facilities.

“The collaboration is an important part of research,” said the university's vice-president Prof Brian Atkin.

The initial emphasis will focus on oil palm genetic improvements through modern molecular techniques, use of DNA to detect illegitimate crosses, tissue culture mix-ups and other identity-related issues.
