Blazer of honour

I READ your article on school prefects, “ Good role models in school” (StarEducation, June 25) with great interest as I was a former school prefect and then became a teacher and principal. I would like to share some of my experiences and views.

The opportunity to be a prefect came when I was in Form Six Lower. When the names of school prefects were announced, I was proud to be among them. That year, the school decided to have blazers for senior prefects. I think the wearing of a school blazer can be compared to a knight’s armour. A school prefect wears his tie and blazer not to show off to his fellow students but as a symbol of dedication and service.
