Tips from the experts

DON’T miss out on the opportunity to attend the workshops scheduled nationwide for the Best School Newspaper Awards 2005 (BSNA 2005).

Three workshops will be held this week, two in the Klang Valley and one in Ipoh. The workshops in the Klang Valley will be held at Kolej Universiti Teknologi dan Pengurusan Malaysia, Shah Alam, (KUTPM) on March 8 and at Menara Star, Petaling Jaya on March 9. The workshop in Ipoh, scheduled for March 11, will be held at Olympia College Ipoh. Have you signed up?

The workshops are aimed at enlightening teachers and students on what makes a newspaper. Participants will find out the skills needed for a school “reporter”– how to conduct interviews, ask the right questions and take interesting photographs.

The Star's journalists will give students tips on how to put together their own four-page school newspaper. Students will also be given an assignment to write a news story based on an actual event.

Vouchers worth RM2.5mil, pledged by Pizza Hut, are waiting to be won this year.

Details of the contest, which will be launched on April 5, will also be disclosed at the workshop.

There are changes to the contest rules this year as well as great surprises in store for the winners. Places are limited and on a first-come-first-served basis.

Each school will only be allowed to send four students and one teacher. Those interested in taking part in the workshops at KUTPM and Menara Star can contact Kiran at 03-7967 1298 to register. To register for the workshop at Olympia College, call Ms Oun or Ms Kam at 04-647 3883/3399. See below for details of upcoming contest workshops in your area.
