FORMER students and lecturers of Kolej Disted-Stamford in Penang held an inaugural reunion dinner for alumni of its Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) computer science programme earlier this month.
College president Datuk Dr Chong Eng Keat, academic staff and current computer science students also attended the function, themed Back in the Days.
Held at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang, the dinner provided an opportunity for its alumni to renew ties and share experiences and successes.
It also presented an avenue for present computer science students to network with their seniors, and learn more about working life in the information technology (IT) sector. The colleges pioneer batch of the USM computer science degree students graduated in 2000.
Among the alumni present was a former prom king of the college, K. Sakthiaseelan, who is currently researching the use of artificial intelligence to diagnose glaucoma and breast cancer, with USM.
Dr Chong, an advocate of strong alumni relations, updated the ex-students on the latest college developments.
We will soon be running two programmes from Multimedia University in Electronics Engineering and IT (data communications) to cater to the human resource needs for industrial growth in the state.
We are also building up the college to give it a new vigour with better infrastructure, more industry-relevant programmes and to promote industry linkages, he said, adding that more scholarships will also be offered by the college.
