TAYLOR'S College Subang Jaya campus recently hosted the 2004 Melbourne University Open Day. An annual event, five seminars were held which covered opportunities in Science and Information Systems, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Architecture, Building and Planning, Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science.
Said Prof Derek Chan of the Faculty of Science at Melbourne: “Choice is a vital option for our students. Just the Faculty of Science itself offers 35 disciplines to major in. Our course structures are flexible to ensure that the students have a strong science background.
The Taylor’s College School of Architecture & Quantity Surveying has a partnership with Melbourne. Upon completion of the Built Environment diploma programme at Taylor’s College, students are granted advanced standing into the third year of the Architecture and Property & Construction degree courses at Melbourne.
Students at the university can choose to major in Architecture, Property Construction, Landscape Architecture, Planning & Design or Urban & Regional Planning.
Orientation, Hawaii style
New students to Taylor's Business School (TBS) were welcomed into the business programmes Hawaiian style. Even though there was an unexpected rain storm in the evening, more than 60 freshies turned up for the party clad in colourful dresses.
The students kicked off the night with a hula dance and greetings of E komo mai which means welcome in the Hawaiian.
Adrian Low, 18, won the Best Dress Award with his Hawaiian shirt, straw hat and orchid garland around the neck. The Soccer Club of TBS also organised a Futsal Challenge at Sportsplanet, Subang Jaya recently with a total of 18 teams competing for the championship title.
The Futsal lovers, comprising players from the business, American degree and Canadian pre-university programmes as well as international students participated. The names of the teams ranged from Roman Empire, The Pokem's, Martians United, Bongcurl, Secreto de Block F, Warner United, Maglomaniac, Seven Element and Rojak.
The tournament lasted for about six hours with the Pokem team emerging as overall champion. The team was presented with gold medals and an exclusive T-shirt for remembrance.
