IN most schools, the time has come round for the annual Sports Day. These days the event is held either in February or March. At the year-end, given our penchant for examinations, woe betide any school if it even dreams of holding a sports gathering. Come August, you hear only the dull echo of academic drumming.
In the seven or so schools I have served thus far, Sports Day has been a muted, internal affair – which means to say that the school does not open its doors to the general public.
