MORE than 300 graduates received their scrolls at the Nilai International College-Oxford Brookes University graduation ceremony, held in Bandar Baru Nilai, Negri Sembilan, recently.
Nine were awarded first class honours degrees – seven in Accounting and Finance, and one each in Computing and Business & Management. Among them was valedictorian Yeow May Lin, who received her scroll with tears of joy from Oxford Brookes University Vice-Chancellor Prof Graham Upton.
A supportive family and friends are what motivated her to succeed, said May Lin, who obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance.
A former student of SM Chung Ling, Butterworth, May Lin had worked hard throughout the course of her studies and was a recipient of the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities Scholarship.
Others who received first class honours degrees in Accounting and Finance were Chin Pik Fong and Lim Xiau Jien (a former student of Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuala Lumpur); Ching Sze Ping (SMK Infant Jesus Convent, Johor Baru); Tan See Yen (SM Jasin, Malacca); V. Vanitha (SM (P) Methodist, Kuala Lumpur); and Song Xiang Yu (Shanghai Guiyang High School, China).
Another first class honours degree student, who majored in Business and Management, Bibiana Soon Huai Gek attended SM St Elizabeth in Sibu, Sarawak. “I might be going for my MBA. I want to get into International Trade,” she said.
Wong Mei Kuen, a transfer student from the National University of Singapore, obtained first class honours BSc in Computing.
Among those present at the convocation were PK Resources Bhd Group chairman Tan Sri Dr Gan Kong Seng, Nilai International's president Tengku Shamsul Bahrin, and its chief executive Datuk Gan Kong Hiok.
