False diploma rackets in Vietnam

DETECTIVES in Vietnam have busted a series of false diploma rackets which have been handing out brilliant qualifications to students who have never sat for exams. Hanoi university graduates Nguyen Thai Hoang and Nguyen Van Binh are accused of recruiting high-flying students to pass exams for around 50 other candidates applying to colleges. Each candidate paid US$2,000 to US$3,500 (RM7,600 to M13,300) to pass selection exams for universities.

Meanwhile, authorities in Ho Chi Minh have unearthed other false diploma rackets in provinces across the country. Around a million students every year sit for entry exams to universities in Vietnam. – AFP
