Young squash talent awarded

MALACCA: The Squash Association of Malacca honoured young squash aces from historic city during the coveted second Junior Squash Excellence Award 2014

The event was held at the Squash Hall, Stadium Hang Jebat here witnessed standing ovations for the young players who have excelled at national and International tournaments throughout 2014.

State Health and Sports Development Committee chairman Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim said the presentation of the awards as being a historic event giving an inspiration to other players competing to achieve excellence.

“With the support and commitment of the trainers and parents, the Malacca Squash Association has managed to produce many potential and skilled players,” he said.

The award was presented to Andrik Lim Khai Shan, 10, who recently grabbed the silver medal in the Under-11 age group category and Wong Peng Soon, 14, who took the bronze medal in the Under-15 age group category.

Both have catapulted into the top ranking in the International scene among the juniors in their respective age group categories at the Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2014.

Meanwhile, Nur Waffiah was awarded the silver medal at the Girls Under-11 Indian Squash Junior Open Championship, held at the Indian Squash Academy in Tamil Nadu, India.

The state’s Squash Association president, Andrew Muthu said success was steadily recorded over the years with local talents doing creditably well in annual national junior, group tournaments and state open meets.

“We are most impressed with the success churned out by Malacca’s young squash talents,” he added.
