Branch contributes RM10,000 to rep over lawsuit

SIBU: SUPP Dudong Branch has started the ball rolling by collecting RM10,000 for Teng Ung Woo, the secretary-general of its Youth Central who lost a defamation suit. DAP Sarikei MP, Wong Ling Biu had filed a RM1.5mil defamation lawsuit against Teng and China Press Bhd for libel in a story which appeared on June 26, 2013. Sibu High Court Judge Lee Heng Cheong in his judgment on Nov 26 said the plaintiff had proven his case against Teng and China Press.

Judge Lee told the first defendant (Teng), to pay general aggravated damages of RM200,000 plus legal costs of RM35,000 to Wong while the second defendant (China Press), was also ordered to pay general and aggravated damages of RM150,000 to the plaintiff.
