THE OWNER of a multi-storey carpark which is being used to store food products in SS25 in Taman Mayang will apply to convert the building into a warehouse.
“The owner wants more time to prepare a submission to convert the use of the building to a warehouse.
“MBPJ has allowed the operator to continue operations until Jan 15.
“We will issue a notice for commercial and residential properties in the immediate area of Jalan SS25/24 to submit their views on the application.
“If they are against the conversion, they should write in,” said Urban Planning Development Department director Sharipah Marhaini Syed Ali
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) had on Oct 14 given the proprietor two weeks to shift his operations elsewhere.
The order was issued under Section 70 (12) of the Road Drainage Act 1974 (Act 133).The operator was given 14 days to cease all activities and remove his goods.
However, on Oct 29, workers at the premises could be seen unloading cardboard boxes from containers placed outside the entrance using forklifts.
StarMetro had reported on Oct 16 that dozens of motorists were forced to double-park along Jalan SS25/24 as the four-level carpark was no longer open to the public.
SS25/24 Taman Mayang Rukun Tetangga chairman Chan Chow Wang said MBPJ must act and seal the building.
“All equipment and goods should be confiscated,” he said.
Chan added that the building should be used for its original purpose as the carpark was approved by the council on April 5, 2005.
