Mayor’s Award for Star writer

The Star won the prestigious Mayor’s Award at the inaugural PJ Media Awards.

StarMetro chief reporter Edward Rajendra J.S. Henry Kandiah won the award for best English news article in the print media for the story, “Geared Towards Growth” published on June 26.

The Mayor’s Award recognises news published in a newspaper’s regular section that demonstrate high standards of reporting on issues of significance.

Edward received RM5,000 from Petaling Jaya mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad at a ceremony held at the PJ Civic Centre on Wednesday.

StarMetro reporter Sheila Sri Priya Raman Chetty as well as Fazurawati Che Lah, So Si Meng, Gunalan Ranantheran, Nas Ahmad, Haris Farok and Muhammad Asri Sapfie from other media publications received RM1,000 and an appreciation certificate each for their stories on Petaling Jaya.

The panel of judges for the awards included academics from Monash University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
