KUCHING: For the eighth year in a row, Celcom Axiata Bhd has set up one of the tallest and brightest Christmas trees in Sarawak.
Every year, the telco’s Christmas tree has been set up in a different locations. It has been installed near the Kuching City South Council headquarters, at Padang Merdeka and at Premier 101 in the past.
This year, the tree is at Kuching Waterfront. At 80 feet high, it is the tallest structure at the public park and is lit up with 30,000 LEDs, which was officially lit on Sunday.
“Last year, Celcom brought a winter wonderland to Padang Merdeka. Now, they’ve created Christmas by the Sarawak River. They’ve chosen the right place, because, look, just look at the crowd today,” said Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai.
“I hope Celcom will also do something similar for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya because this is in line with DBKU’s ‘Clean, Beautiful and Safe’ masterplan.”
The telco’s East Malaysia head of sales Choo Meng Chung said the company was delighted to support Sarawak’s vibrant festivities.
“Our tree lighting has become an annual tradition. We are pleased to have shared these joyful moments with families in Kuching,” Choo said.
The lighting up ceremony also included prize giving ceremony to Celcom’s prepaid customers.
Lucky recipients included Muhammad Azani B Daud, 24, who won a Samsung Note 4, while Syed Mohd Radzee Wan Ala took home a Nikon DSLR D750 valued at more than RM9,000.
