THE best final-year student of Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) polymer engineering programme will get a gold medal prize awarded by Texchem Resources Bhd at the university’s convocation from next year.
USM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman said Texchem had given a one-off contribution of RM25,000 for the purpose.
He said the money would be used to generate continuous funds to enable the medal to be given out to subsequent recipients.
“I would like to convey the utmost gratitude to Texchem for its contribution towards the realisation of the gold medal prize for the polymer engineering programme and continuous support to the university,” Dr Omar said during the handing over of the contribution at the USM Chancellory Conference Room recently.
Texchem Group executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Fumihiko Konishi said it was a pleasure for the company to give the contribution since it had business interest in the field of polymer.
“This collaboration could encourage more students to join the programme,” Konishi said.
Polymer engineering is the newest engineering programme offered by the School of Materials and Mineral Resources since 2002.
