NOT many people know this but once upon a time, I actually drove an illegal taxi. My stint as an unlicensed cabbie (called kereta sapu then) lasted about six months in 1997, helping me make ends meet with about RM900 per month.

But I’m not in any way condoning it just because I was jobless and broke — doing anything illegal is still wrong. It was particularly hard for my ego because I had just graduated from a top public university as a civil engineer!
