Jubilant yarn spinners: (Front row, from left) Zee Ching, Kai Bin and Nur Ilyana with consolation prize winners of Category B in the English Storytelling Competition during the Popular Mega Bookfair 2014 in Straits Quay.

A LITTLE creative twist and storytelling innovation won Looi Kai Bin, 12, first place in an English Storytelling Competition themed ‘Stories By-the-Sea’ at the Popular Mega Bookfair 2014 in Penang.

To suit the theme, Kai Bin recited an engaging story titled ‘Nemo and The Shark’, which he retold from an original Malaysian folk tale of the mouse deer and a tiger, where the smaller animal escaped death through its cleverness.
