Pillion rider killed, motorcyclist injured in crash


JOHOR BARU: A pillion rider was killed while his partner was severely injured after they crashed into a road divider in the early hours of Sunday morning .

The victim, who was identified as D. Manigaandaan, 19, died on the spot of severe head injuries after being dragged 30m and smashing his head into the divider along KM0.08 of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) heading towards Singapore.

Meanwhile, rider J. Narresh, 21 suffered serious injuries to his right leg in the 7am incident after he lost control of the motorcycle.

Johor Bahru (South) OCPD, Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh, confirmed the incident and said the body of Manigaandaan was brought to the Forensics Department of Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) here for a post mortem while Narresh was being treated at the emergency unit of the same hospital.

He also said that road was not wet and the area was well-lit, without any heavy movement of traffic at the time of the accident.

ACP Sulaiman said that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
