A CHANCE encounter led Josephine Tan to the world of modelling, and she eventually fell in love with it and is proud of her personal accomplishment.
“I was 18 when I first started modelling. A friend urged me to try out as one of the models with the briefcases on the television game show, Deal Or No Deal,” said Tan, who also goes by the nickname ‘Jojo’.
“Modelling was not always something that I wanted to do, but after my first experience, I realised that this was something that I liked to do.”
Having found a newfound love for modelling, she was inspired to study broadcasting in New York, where she learned more about the industry that she wanted to work in.
Some may recognise the Kuantan-born beauty from her stint on the popular reality television show, Asia’s Next Top Model (Cycle 2), which aired early this year.
“It was a unique experience.
“Rather than expect us to look prim and proper, many of the tasks challenged us to act quickly under time limits, so they could see the real us in front of the camera,” said Tan, who made it as one of the top six finalists.
Outside of her runway shows and wide variety of modelling jobs, she also works part-time in events management and marketing, on a pay-per-project basis.
Her love for customising bags, clothes and other items with all kinds of charms has also led her to start her own online business recently, where people can order handmade customised goods such as bags, pouches, mobile phone casings and more.
“I have a very busy daily schedule, so I enjoy doing yoga in my leisure time to relax my mind.
“I also love shopping and hanging out with friends,” she said.
What is your favourite movie?
“I am a girl who likes action movies like The Avengers.”
What is your biggest fear?
“Reptiles. I do not mind insects so much, but I am really afraid of reptiles.”
If you could meet any famous person, who would it be?
“Victoria Beckham. As a businesswoman and mother of five, she is a huge inspiration to me.”
What is one bad habit that you have?
“I think I nag a lot. If someone has borrowed my things without returning them, I will continue to nag at them until they do.”
What is one thing you would do to cheer someone up?
“I am a very talkative person, so I would talk and annoy them until they laugh and tell me to shut up!”
