Through their Shopping Buddy Programme, a group of volunteers from Great Vision Charity Association became shopping buddies to 10 underprivileged and hardcore poor families on a trip to Aeon Big Hypermarket in The Sphere Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.
On the morning of the outing, the volunteers met up with the respective families at their homes to pick them up and chauffeured them to the mall.
The Shopping Buddy Programme is conducted by the association on the third Sunday of each month, where 10 selected underprivileged families will be invited to shop for groceries, accompanied by volunteers from the association.
Each family is presented with RM100 cash vouchers, to help ease their burden.
The programme is run by the Great Vision Charity Association in collaboration with partner associations whose members are encouraged to volunteer for charitable events.
During the shopping session, volunteers were seen helping their assigned families to look for grocery items and compare prices among various brands to get the best deals.
Some were also seen helping out the families to calculate their total sum of purchase.
After the shopping session, the families were invited to lunch with the volunteers at the Chicken Rice Shop before being chauffeured back to their homes.
One of the beneficiaries, Munah Din said she never knew such a charity group providing this meaningful support for the needy existed in Malaysia.
“It is the first time in my life that a group of volunteers took me for grocery shopping. This came at the right time as it had been a few months since I could afford to properly shop for provisions,” she said.
