BACK for its seventh consecutive year, the Malaysian qualifying round of the 2014 Volvo World Golf Challenge saw enthusiasts all decked up in sporty attire and gathered at the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort with the aim of winning the Malaysian title and a chance to play among the best at the global finals in Shanghai, China, in April 2015.
Organised by Volvo Trucks Malaysia, the annual golf tournament saw 98 golfers consisting of Volvo customers, partners and members of the media, from around Malaysia battling it out for the much sought-after Championship title.
“For us at Volvo, golf is not just a sport; it is also a game which correlates very much to our business. Golf is a sport of focus and precision, and is growing in strength.
“Much like our brand, we emphasize on these qualities to produce trucks that are reliable, durable and precise in addressing our customers need for total and efficient transportation solution.
“For this year’s golf event, we are very grateful to have the strong support of our partners, customers as well as media friends as their presence here confirms that our relationship goes beyond business,” said Volvo Malaysia managing director Mats Nilsson.
Datuk Peter Yong King King of Jaya Tiasa Holdings Berhad took the top spot in this year’s tournament by scoring 39 points.
“I woke up this morning looking forward to an exciting game of golf but I guess I got more than just that, which is really great! I am pleased with my golfing performance today and it has been a really good game for all of us who played,” Yong said.
Yong will represent Malaysia at the World Finals in China next year. He will pit his golfing skills against other national champions from 25 countries for a chance to walk away with the ultimate title of the Volvo World Golf Champion 2014.
Ben Lim Choon Shyang from Vertex Mission Sdn Bhd and Fred Chen from Ah Sang Motor emerged in second and third place respectively.
Both winners won a trophy and a game of weekday golf for four at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, respectively.
