MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon has suggested that a discussion be held between the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry, Fisheries Department and fishermen’s associations on the 2016 ban on trawl net fishing.
“Many will be affected. Although the ministry has given trawl boat operators a year to change their mode of fishing to purse seine, it is not sufficient. Many have invested millions of ringgit on trawl boats,” Chong said.
