THE state government will implement all the projects announced for Perak under Budget 2015 as soon as possible, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said.
He said this included the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the setting up of a hospital in Seri Iskandar, the construction of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) connecting Taiping to Banting in Selangor, the ETS train services from Ipoh to Butterworth, more schools and clinics.
He said overall, the Budget announced was to ensure the well-being of the people.
Dr Zambry said most of the questions on the publics’s mind have been answered on the Goods and Services Tax, whereby no tax would be imposed on food and essential items, including petrol, diesel and liquid petroleum gas.
The Budget also helped to address the needs of the lower and middle-income group.
Among others are the incentives to purchase houses and BRIM, as the middle-income group comprised 40% of the population.
Najib also took into account the problems faced by farmers, fishermen and those having small rubber and oil palm plantations, by providing allocations to improve the living conditions of fishing villages, and providing incentives for such groups.
For the first time ever, a monthly allowance of RM200 for full-time coastal fishermen was also approved.
“I am happy with that piece of news because Perak has many such fishermen,” he said after watching the Budget 2015 announcement live on television at his official residence on Friday.
Dr Zambry said the WCE was due to be completed between two and three years time.
He said design works, possession of land, and negotiations had already begun.
