Film personalities from Bollywood and Kollywood are scheduled to be here for the South Indian Cinematographers Association (SICA) 2015 awards from Jan 2 to 4 at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
Project director Shahul Hameed Dawood said more than 300 artistes, including mega stars, performers, musicians, cameramen, technicians and crew, are expected to attend.
The three-day cultural extravaganza would see the presentation of various awards for film, actors, singers, directors, music directors, choreographers, art director, editor, art director, writer, stunt director and upcoming actors in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi.
The SICA 2015 is organised by SICA with the cooperation of Malaysian Indian Sports and Cultural Foundation (MISCF) and Kassim Chin Humanity Foundation. The proceeds will be used to develop sports and cultural talents and activities in Malaysia.
Prominent film directors K. Barathiraja and R.K. Selvamani, actors Illavarasu, Ananya, Chithra Lakshman, SICA president Robert Rajasekhar, secretary Fefsi Siva, MISCF chairman Datuk T. Mohan and Kassim Chin foundation executive trustee Milee Kassim were present.
He said this was the first big event organised to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema outside India.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan, who launched the event, said Malaysians have always been supportive of Tamil and Hindi films in the country.
“I hope there would be cooperation between the filmworld of the two countries and they can help the locals in upgrading their filming techniques and skills,” he said, adding that the late S. Vasudevan and late A. Ravichandran were Malaysians who had made it big in South Indian filmworld.
Shahul Hameed said there would be music performances, dance, comedy sketches as well as singing in Hindi (the first day), Tamil (second day) and a joint Malaysia-India cultural performance on the third day.
“This will promote cultural values among Malaysians and Indians while promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2014, which has been declared as the year of festivals,” he said.
