British duo Maze and Masters seem to be rising up the ranks fast in the house music stakes.
London and the South East circuit regulars Verity Mayes (aka Maze) and Bryony Masters have been steadily rising through the ranks residing at the most notorious venues and events in London, UK, and now worldwide.
They’ve already been seen in the likes Viva Warriors, KISS FM, OFF Recordings Live, Cue Love, dirtybird, Fire & Lightbox, Gutterslut, Room Service, Beyond and Matinee London; Brighton’s Digital, Coalition and Audio; as well as British house label Fierce Angel, the Circuit Festival Barcelona and more worldwide.
Tomorrow, Maze and Masters make their Malaysian debut to guest headline famed British house label Fierce Angel at the label’s now bi-monthly party at Mai Bar rooftop, Aloft hotel, KL Sentral.
They’ve played Fierce Angel before, having met label founder Mark Doyle at one of his previous party visits to Brighton where Mayes, 28, is originally from.
She certainly felt the excitement of the duo making their Malaysia debut.
“We love to visit places and have a taste of other cultures,” she said during a short lunch interview last week just outside Fire, one of South London’s most famous circuit super clubs, and where Maze works in promotions, as well as holding a weekly residency there with Masters.
Maze & Masters spread a message of fresh and forward thinking house sounds with roots older than their years, delivered in relentless and innovative sets. They have also supported the likes of Steve Lawler, MK, The 2 Bears, Maya Jane Coles and Sharam Jey, among others.
“I have always been into house music and have wanted to be a DJ since I was a child,” Mayes said.
“I am originally from Brighton and grew up and started DJing there. I met Masters while we were both DJing the circuit in Brighton,” she said.
“We do back-to-back DJing, one or two tracks each and I have tried it with others before but it just didn’t work,” she said, explaining that she and Masters, 25, really clicked and hit the ground running with their collaboration.
2013 saw a move to production with high-profile releases on Sony and Unviersal Music hitting #1 and #3 in Music Week Club and Cool Cuts charts. Their huge remix of Foxes Youth was supported by a hard-hitting line-up of world-renowned DJs including Tiesto and Roger Sanchez.
Their current release is the much-anticipated If U Got It by Chris Malinchak (Maze&Masters/Joe Hertz/Mark Knight Remixes).
And this year has been just as busy, having already appeared at Barcelona’s circuit festival, Brighton Pride and festivals such as We Are FSTVL and Secret Garden Party and a remix of Kylie Mingoue’s latest single, I Was Gonna Cancel.
“After this Malaysian trip, we’ve got Bestival Festival and then Ibiza as well, and we start a new residency at XOYO Club London,” Mayes added.
