THE local cheerleading community has received a huge boost thanks to two new sponsors for R.AGE’s annual CHEER inter-school cheerleading competition.

U Mobile and SimplySiti are the co-sponsors of this year’s event, which will be held today and tomorrow at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

“These kids are challenging themselves to be the best in what they do and striving to be creative, innovative and stand out. These are values that U Mobile shares with CHEER,” said U Mobile’s general manager of marketing communication, brand and digital Jeanette Lee.

“As a brand, it is important to mean something to our customers. And having fun and inspiring others are certainly some of of our core values as a company,” she added.

Singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, who is the founder of cosmetics brand SimplySiti, will make an appearance at the event tomorrow to show her support for Malaysian cheerleading.

CHEER 2014 will mark the 15th anniversary of the competition, which was founded back in 2000 to give Malaysian cheerleading teams a platform to showcase their talents.

Thirty-four teams will be taking part this year, all hoping to take home one of the three main trophies – the All-Girls School Junior, All-Girls School and Co-Ed School.

Last year, the Cyrens from Sri Kuala Lumpur School were crowned the champions of the All-Girls School division for the fourth year in a row.

If they win again this year, they will have matched all-time CHEER record holders Shirtliff from SMK Seri Bintang Selatan, with five wins.

This spirit of youthful competition and exuberance is synonymous with SimplySiti.

“At SimplySiti, we believe in cultivating creativity and expressing oneself positively, especially for the new generation. It is apt that we are part of this exciting event, as it encourages teamwork and active living for the youth,” said SimplySiti vice president of sales and marketing Josh Lim.

Jeremy Teo and Terry Ong, deejays of official radio station Red FM, will be hosting the event. A few lucky members of the audience will also stand a chance to win prizes.

CHEER is organised by R.AGE. It is co-sponsored by U Mobile and SimplySiti. Red FM is the official radio station. For more information, log on to www.facebook.com/TheStarCHEER.
