THE 2015 Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup (SAATC) will be open for participation soon and talented young riders are invited to submit their applications, with candidates from Australia and New Zealand also eligible to take part.
The SAATC, currently in its inaugural season, has started accepting applications for the 2015 season via its official website, www.asiatalentcup.com, from Aug 1 until Sept 5.
Riders born between Jan 1, 1994 and Feb 1, 2002 are eligible to apply.
The announcement was made at a buka puasa reception hosted by Shell Advance for the seven Malaysian riders participating in this year’s SAATC and their families.
At the reception, Shell Malaysia also presented duit raya and hampers to the seven riders — Muhammad Shafiq Rasol, Muhammad Helmi Azman, Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam, Muhammad Shafiq Ezzariq, Nazirul Izzat Muhammad Bahauddin and brothers Muhammad Adam and Muhammad Ibrahim Norrodin.
Also present were Sepang International Circuit chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali and Moto3 riders Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Amirul Hafiq Azmi.
Razlan took the opportunity to give the Malaysian riders a pep talk ahead of the second half of the season that resumes from Sept 19 to 21, with Round 5 to be held in Sepang.
Thereafter, three more races remain — Round 6 in Motegi, Japan, from Oct 10 to 12, and Round 7 and 8 in Sepang from Oct 24 until 26 in conjunction with the 2014 Shell Advance Malaysian MotoGP.
Youths who had registered during the Shell Advance nationwide roadshow will be automatically fed into the application pipeline.
The list of pre-selected riders will be announced on Sept 18 while the official selection trials will be held at Sepang International Circuit on Oct 27 and 28.
Under the watchful eye of SAATC director Alberto Puig, successful applicants will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to race, learn and appear before the riders and fans of MotoGP.
“The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup offers an unprecedented chance for young Asian motorcycle talents to showcase their skills in a dedicated championship.
“We are committed to ensuring that every rider is able to unlock their potential and we are confident that the 2015 recruitment process will be a successful one full of aspiring young athletes,” Puig said.
