KUCHING: The Sarawak ICT Expo 2014, to be held for the first time at CityONE Megamall here from Friday to Sunday, and will feature more than 100 booths.
Event organiser Kuching Computer Business Association (KCBA) is estimating visitors to reach above 50,000, just like previous years when it took place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.
Organising chairman Jong Fui Ming said the change of venue was to reach more people. He said transportation to the convention centre had posed difficulties for visitors in the past.
“The convention centre is a very nice place but we always felt we saw a lot more cars than motorcycles. I think some people find it harder to go further away, so this time, we are bringing the expo closer to more people,” Jong told a press conference yesterday.
CityONE Megamall’s exhibition centre offers just as much space with 1,500 parking bays available.
“We can actually accommodate up to 130 booths but we are trying not to max it out because we anticipate big crowds,” said Jong.
The Sarawak ICT Expo is one of the largest fairs of its kind in Sarawak and is an important event for the ICT industry. Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is the official telco partner, while Samsung Electronics is one of the co-sponsors.
“As Malaysia’s broadband champion, our participation in the Expo is a perfect avenue for TM to showcase new as well as existing products and services to consumers in Kuching in a fun and casual atmosphere,” said its state general manager Sarbini Hamdan.
TM’s booth will exhibit the latest offerings from the company, which include UniFi, the triple-play services offering voice, high-speed Internet and its IPTV called HyppTV.
“Besides, TM customers can find out more about its loyalty programme, TM Rewards, which offers a host of exciting items, merchandise, discounts, promotions and rebates for TM bills,” Sarbini said.
He added new subscribers would be entitled to free gifts and entries to lucky draws by KCBA.
“To add to the fun, TM has also lined up interesting and exciting stage activities like a ‘Football Penalty’ shootout,” Sarbini added. The Sarawak ICT Expo will be open from 11am until 9pm daily.
