KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has agreed with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) suggestion not to allow his immediate family members to apply for state land or logging concessions.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed has described this as a “very positive reaction” from Adenan in efforts to boost integrity in the management of the state.
“I am extremely proud of the chief minister (Adenan) who in principle has agreed not to allow his immediate family, either his wife or his children to apply for the abovementioned matters,” he told a press conference after attending a dialogue with leaders of the Chinese community here yesterday.
Abu Kassim said similar suggestions had also been made to chief ministers and menteris besar of other states.
Meanwhile, the MACC is monitoring the activities of ‘middle men’ who used the names of politicians or senior government officials, and claimed to be able to influence their decisions in the approval of an application. — Bernama
