THE Central Kedah Tourism and Art Development Association is undertaking several initiatives to help promote the state’s attractions and boost visitor arrivals.
Among the ways is a Discover Kedah website offering comprehensive information on many places of interest, from heritage sites to scenic natural attractions.
The website will also give potential visitors handy information on eateries, accommodation and shopping destinations, along with insider travel tips.
The association, established earlier this year with 24 members, also plans to come up with a Central Kedah Food Trail, and create event calendars listing the many happenings in the region.
It has organised many excursions for schoolchildren, according to its chairman Vincent Tai.
The association also endeavours to promote artwork by local artists to a wider international audience and lure foreign talents to the area.
“All these should help boost central Kedah and ultimately attract more investment.
“We hope this will create more jobs and improve the quality of life here.
“Kedah tourism is still rather underdeveloped.
“We need to create awareness among the public and make it easy for visitors to come and explore,” said Tai on Sunday.
From an art perspective, Tai said there were not many platforms in Kedah for local artists to showcase their works, compared to more developed places like Penang or Kuala Lumpur.
He believed that if indigenous art was highlighted, the region would have an attraction to entice visitors.
“Art allows us to express our individualism and thoughts and can be an avenue to help improve society,” opined Tai, an avid artist himself.
He called on locals to work hand in hand to help develop the state, and hoped that with positive results, there would be increased support from government or tourism authorities in developing more projects.
