IT is the time for Penangites to voice their needs for good town planning and improvements in the state as the Penang Municipal Council is in the midst of preparing its 2015 Budget.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey said the council had to start listening more to the people if it wanted to create a city for the people.

“The council has to learn about the people’s needs and prepare facilities accordingly.

“The culture that the council knows best does not work any more as the people now know better,” she said during a walkabout around her constituency recently.

Yap said for example, space for local entrepreneurs was not being prioritised.

“The council failed to recognise the importance of shophouses and petty traders that provide a sense of community.

“These is the kind of feedback that the people must give for next year’s council Budget,” she said.

The public have until June 14 to submit their thoughts and give their feedback through the council’s questionnaire available at
