KUCHING: Andrea Natalia Jaed, 19, a music student at Kampung Budaya Sarawak, beat 11 others to take the crown of the Dayung Pimaguh Bisapug 2014.
The Kampung Pruman Simpok lass took home the champion trophy, RM800, a two-day, one-night stay at Damai Beach Resort and a hamper from Nestle Products Sdn. Bhd.
In second place was Leah Abigail Ricky Guing, 22, a UiTM Shah Alam accounting degree student while in third was insurance clerk Lenny Iku, 23.
Leah took RM500, a trophy and hamper while Lenny bagged RM300, a trophy and hamper.
Earlier, the Bidayuh were told that any positive tranformation of their lifestyle would depend on their level of education.
State Assembly deputy speaker Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, speaking at the closing of the beauty pageant Dayung Pimaguh Bisapug 2014 in Kampung Sarig yesterday, said members of the community must make full use of the opportunities for higher education provided by the government.
“Education has not only freed our people from the shackles of poverty but that many members of the community are successful today,” he said, adding that he was glad to note that even those vying for the beauty queen title were highly educated.
Later Sagah presented RM7,000 to SK St Peter Simpok’s PTA, RM10,000 to Kampung Simpok’s Healthy Family Association and RM15,000 to Kampung Sarig’s women Rela group.
Bisapug Association, the organiser of the pageant, also gave away education insentives to the high-scoring children of members.
