KUCHING: Partyless Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck says he will not join Teras, “since it is all Barisan people”.

Fong, however, did not deny he was approached to join the new party last week, when asked by The Star yesterday.

“What is their policies, their goals? I don’t know. All I know is that they are from Barisan, so whatever struggles of the party, must be the same as those in Barisan. I think even some of their own people don’t know their own direction,” Fong said, adding that he preferred to be called an Independent who is Pakatan friendly.

The first-term Pujut assemblyman was sacked by DAP in November last year. Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said Fong was sacked for “going against the party” in the last general election.

Recently, talk circulated that Fong was considering PKR. Fong himself has posted several photos of himself with state PKR leaders on his Facebook page. Asked about this, Fong admitted: “PKR is my first choice. I’m considering.”

On when he might put in an official membership request, he said there was still a long way to go before the next state elections, which is not due until mid 2016.

Asked if Pujut was one of the disputed seats between PKR and DAP (which is presently negotiating seats to contest in), Fong replied: “I think so, so no need to rush.”

Last week, state Pakatan leaders they had decided on the allocation of 46 out of 71 seats in preparation for the next state polls.
