A BENEFACTOR has contributed RM50,000 to the police for solving a snatch theft case that saw a woman killed.
The money was handed over to Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Rahim Hanafi by Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan who represented the anonymous donor.
SDCP Abdul Rahim said the perpetrator Ooi Kean Leong was found guilty and sentenced to jail for 15 years by the court.
“Ooi committed the offence on July 10, 2012 at 6am, where he came from behind on a motorcycle and snatched the handbag slung on Tan Kim Chuan’s shoulder. This caused her to fall and knock the back of her head on the road in front of J block of Rifle Range flat.
“Tan suffered internal bleeding in her head and died at 3.45pm on the same day.
“Ooi was arrested by the police almost a month later based on the tip-off by the public. He was charged under Section 304 of the Penal Code for committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” he said during the cheque handing over ceremony at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.
SDCP Abdul Rahim said the money would be equally distributed to all the districts and the departments in Penang including the marine police and the Federal Reserve Unit.
