THE official opening of the new TGV Cinemas in Gurney Paragon Mall will feature a Guinness World Record setting attempt for the ‘Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Spider-Man’.
Some 340 ‘webbed superheroes’ are set to enter the book of extreme achievements for the unique feat, in the event starting 7pm on Wednesday at the mall in Penang.
According to TGV Cinemas chief executive officer Gerald V. Dibbayawan, registration for the attempt started earlier this month, and garnered over 400 applications in total from both adults and children.
“We are pleased to bring a fun and memorable, state-of-the-art cinematic experiences to the Penang community. Gurney Paragon is our second location on the island, and also our first IMAX theatre up north.
“We would also like to thank all those who registered to help us set this record,” he said of the event, which is also held in conjunction with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie.
Participants and spectators at the opening ceremony will also be able to watch a sneak peak screening of the film. The public can register from 7pm onwards, subject to seat availability, on a first-come-first-served basis.
TGV will also host a movie carnival at the Gurney Paragon concourse on May 1 and 2. There will be many fun cinema-related activities for visitors to participate in, along with premium giveaways.
In conjunction with its grand opening, the cinema is offering introductory ticket prices as low as RM5 for early bird screenings.
IMAX tickets go at RM17 for 2D, and RM19 for 3D. More details can be found at www.tgv.com.my/promotions/promos/tgv-cinemas-gurney-paragon-mall-introductory-price.

Five more standard halls are set to open in the coming weeks, bringing the overall total seating capacity to 1,287. Each hall also includes seats for the disabled.
