THE alumni of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia got together recently to watch the play, Emily of Emerald Hill.
“We have not met for a long time. I can’t remember the last time we had a gathering,” said UNSW Alumni Malaysia chapter vice-president Datin Dr Pixie Low.
The newly-elected committee decided to organise a small get-together to allow younger members to meet the seniors.
Dr Low said the Malaysian chapter has more than 200 members but some graduates may not have known of the alumni’s existence.
“With more members, we can organise other events so that we can meet more frequently,” she said when met at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (Dpac) in Petaling Jaya.
Dr Low, who was also the event organiser, said the alumni plans to hold a gala dinner in September to celebrate UNSW’s vice-chancellor Fred Hilmer’s visit before his retirement.
She said watching a play rather than having a sit-down dinner would allow guests to mingle better.
The evening started with a cocktail session with guests sampling Australian wine and nyonya kuih before watching Pearlly Chua in the one-woman play.
