Festive splashing ritual also an act of cleansing

GEORGETOWN: Thousands of revellers had a merry time getting soaked during the Thai Songkran and Burmese Thingyan festivals in Penang.

They splashed and sprayed each other with water as they converged on the Chaiya Mangalaram Thai Buddhist Temple and the Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple in Burmah Lane for the festivals which marked the new year for both communities.
